In recent years, there has been conflicting information about the health effects of dairy products. Some people believe that not eating dairy products will have a negative impact on their health, while others believe that dairy products are one of the factors that cause inflammation in the body.

Some studies have shown that higher consumption of red meat is associated with increased psoriasis, which may be caused by inflammation of the intestinal mucosa stimulated by arachidonic acid (ARA) in red meat. Arachidonic acid is an essential unsaturated fatty acid, it is also present in dairy products, but there is no specific research in this area (dairy products and psoriasis).

Published in a 2019 review 1, milk and dairy products have anti-inflammatory effects when looking at people without chronic diseases or metabolic abnormalities. Another review of clinical studies on dairy products and inflammation showed that dairy products appeared to have an anti-inflammatory effect on most participants, with the exception of one group: people who are allergic to milk. The review also noted that both high-fat and low-fat dairy products have anti-inflammatory activity.

Therefore, unless you are allergic to dairy products, or you find that dairy products have specific effects on your health, you can safely consume dairy products.

Milk and dairy products are great sources of calcium. Studies have shown that people with psoriasis often have low calcium levels. A 2013 study of 98 psoriasis patients showed that more than a third had hypocalcemia, meaning they had low levels of calcium in their blood. In another survey of 1,206 respondents, 4 people with psoriasis reported that they consumed less dairy and calcium than the general population. Most people said their skin improvements were best when they reduced alcohol, gluten and solanaceous vegetables in their diet and increased their intake of fish or omega-3 fatty acids, vegetables and vitamin D.

In conclusion, if you eliminate dairy products from your diet and your skin looks or feels better, then you may consider eliminating them or consuming them in small amounts.

However, if eating dairy products isn't causing you any negative effects, there's no need to avoid them, as they contain a lot of nutrients and may also help suppress inflammation.
